I have read the information that John R. Gourd was a "Standing Witness" and that he was paid to testify "whatever" in many cases, including this one, basically making the Cherokee claims nothing more than proverbial "hogwash". Regardless of whether or not his testimony was the truth or not, these documents contain much valuable genealogy material that cannot be overlooked. And we certainly can use the documents to back up our research. As for the claims of being Cherokee, we have other documents and our own family tradition which validates our own claims whether these documents do or not.
